A local faith-based nonprofit has never had someone to manage all of its of community relations. Until now.
Mel Trotter Ministries in Grand Rapids said this month that it has created the position of director of community relations.
The nonprofit’s mission is to “demonstrate the compassion of Jesus Christ toward the hungry, homeless and hurting” in the area.
The position is responsible for media relations and creating relationships with corporations, foundations and other groups and creating opportunities for Mel Trotter to grow partnerships in West Michigan.
The first person to hold the position is Abigayle Sladick.
Most recently, she served as assistant director of alumni relations at Grand Valley State University.
Previously, Sladick served as a news reporter and photojournalist for FOX 17 WXMI TV in Grand Rapids and KCAU TV in Sioux City, Iowa, as well as in membership services for the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids and as marketing and communications director for the YMCA in Sioux City, Iowa.
Sladick is a member of the American Marketing Association, Young Nonprofit Professionals of Grand Rapids and Volunteer Management Association of West Michigan.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from GVSU, where she's working toward a master of science in communications.
