A fast-food chain is rolling out its new restaurant model at a location opening in the area this week.

McDonald’s franchisee Ken Berg is opening a new 3,500-square-foot McDonald’s on Thursday in Ada Village, at 7100 Fulton St. E. He also owns three other locations in the region.

“We’re excited to share this evolved experience at McDonald’s with our customers,” Berg said. “We’re looking forward to offering them a new way to dine.”

Berg’s previous Ada McDonald’s, in a shopping center at 402 Ada Dr. SE, closed on June 30, so the center could be demolished and the property redeveloped.

The McDonald’s and the new AGO gas station with which it shares a building were constructed as part of the three-year Envision Ada redevelopment underway in the suburb’s 21-acre downtown.

The new Ada location is “significantly larger” than the previous building, which was a McDonald’s Express.

McDonald’s did not disclose the cost of the project.

The architect for the project was Ada-based Dixon Architecture.

Grand Rapids-based Pinnacle Construction Group was the project’s contractor.

Employees

The restaurant will employ 40 to 50 people.

Several workers are transferring from the previous Ada McDonald’s, and some workers are new hires.

New concept

The restaurant is one of several McDonald’s locations in greater Grand Rapids that has adopted the chain’s new enhanced customer service model: digital self-serve order kiosks; tableside service; new payment options, including Apple and Android Pay; and a double-lane drive-thru.

The mobile pay feature allows customers to order via their smartphones and pick up orders either inside the restaurant, in the drive-thru or at a curbside parking spot.

McDonald’s new restaurant model has been rolled out at more than 2,600 restaurants globally.

It has been or will be implemented at several locations in greater Grand Rapids: 59 S. 68th Ave., Coopersville; 213 N. River Ave., Holland; 4596 32nd Ave., Hudsonville; 1779 E. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon; 2727 28th St. SW, Wyoming; 1221 28th St. SW, Wyoming; and 1115 Chicago Drive SW, Wyoming.
