Three Grand Rapids wealth advisors have been ranked among the top 30 institutional consultants in the country by Barron’s.
The investment-centered publication named James Veldheer, Timothy Long and William Mackay to its 2017 ranking of the “Top 30 Institutional Consultants."
All three are managing partners at Veldheer, Long, Mackay & Bernecker Group, a Merrill Lynch firm.
Rankings were determined via the amount of institutional investment assets overseen by the advisor, revenue generated, number of clients served and number of team members and regulatory needs. Designations and accomplishments were also considered.
Mackay has been with Merrill Lynch since 1993 and has a focus on institutional and high-net-worth investment plans. He graduated with a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and studied law at the University of Michigan. He holds a Certified Investment Management Analyst designation sponsored by the Investment Management Consultants Association at Wharton School. He was one of the publication’s inaugural “Top 25 Institutional Consultants” in 2015.
A graduate of Aquinas College, Veldheer attended Grand Valley State University for post-grad studies and joined Merrill Lynch in 1990. His concentration is on pensions, foundations, endowments and high-net-worth families. Veldheer was also a member of the inaugural class of top institutional consultants and holds a CIMA sponsored by IMCA. He was named one of Barron’s top 1,200 advisors for 2017.
Long joined Merrill Lynch in 1994, where he concentrates on financial and estate needs of institutions and high-net-worth individuals. He was a Baker Scholar at Hope College, is a graduate of the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and earned his M.B.A at St. John’s University. Long holds a CIMA, was one of the top 1,200 financial advisors for 2017 and was also an inaugural member of the top 25 institutional consultants list in 2015.
