A financial services firm has bought a local office building to accommodate its growth now and in the future.
Mattson Financial Services plans to relocate its main office in Grand Rapids, at 1507 Plainfield Ave. NE, into a newly renovated 9,000-square-foot office space in Kentwood, at 3226 28th St. SE, this spring.
Gary Mattson, president and CEO of Mattson Financial Services, said the firm plans to completely renovate the upper level of the building.
“We have gutted the interior on the upper level and are putting in electronics, updating the electrical there — as well as new flooring, new paint and new ceiling,” Mattson said.
The new space will also feature a “full gourmet kitchen,” so the firm will be able to host events for its clients, as well as space to record its “Money Mentors Radio Show” from the office.
After the acquisition and renovation costs, Mattson Financial Services will have invested more than $500,000 in the project.
Mattson Financial Services acquired the new office with the help of Cameron Timmer of NAI Wisinski of West Michigan from the seller, Chulam Malin, who was represented by Jason Makowski and Mary Anne Wisinski of NAI Wisinski.
Mattson indicated the new location is centrally located with other attractions and businesses, and the building its good for its clients.
“We found the place we thought was best for us, especially with our client base,” Mattson said. “There are no steps into it. There is a very large parking area for our clients. . . . It is the right area, the right timing and we are very thankful the seller worked with us.”
Mattson said the firm has experienced double-digit growth for a number of years now and moving from the Plainfield Avenue location to a larger space was part of the firm's five-year plan.
“We appreciate everybody in the Grand Rapids marketplace, and the Creston Business District has been very gracious to us,” Mattson said.
“We started the radio show here in Grand Rapids on Saturday mornings and that really prompted more business coming to us,” said Mattson, referring to the “Money Mentors Radio Show” on 106.9 FM and 1300 AM. “To keep up with that growth, we needed more people.”
The firm is looking to hire two new employees.
While the firm will occupy about 4,500 square feet when renovations are completed around mid May, Mattson said he anticipates the firm will use all 9,000 square feet of the building in the future.
The lower level will be available for lease for the time being.
Mattson Financial Services provides financial planning, investment management and tax planning services.
The firm has an additional office in Okemos.
