A $3-million renovation is underway at an eight-story office building downtown.
The 158,884-square-foot 300 Ottawa building in Grand Rapids, across from Calder Plaza, is being renovated to include a new two story and open-air lobby, updated common areas, upgraded elevator cabs, technology integration and updates to the exterior and signage.
The renovation is being funded by DP Fox Ventures, the property’s owner, and is expected to be completed by May.
The project is meant to bring an identity to the building built in 1968 as a companion to the Chase Building, said Dan DeVos, owner and CEO, DP Fox Ventures.
Until the late 1990s, the building served many banking purposes for Union Bank & Trust and its successors.
“The building’s original purpose and therefore design had fallen behind many of its peers,” DeVos said. “The 300 Ottawa building was not designed to have its own identity as an independent office building. We decided to rectify that and make it a legitimate Class A address.”
The building is currently 65 percent occupied, with two full floors available for lease, said Monica Sekulich, SVP, DP Fox Ventures.
There are 10 current tenants, which Sekulich said have been great about working within a construction environment, as they understand it’s “for the greater good.”
Spaces available in 300 Ottawa range from 2,500 to 40,000 square feet.
The 300 Ottawa building is managed by CWD Real Estate Investment in Grand Rapids.
