In addition to the already announced Grandville Five Guys Burgers and Fries, two more Five Guys restaurants are coming to West Michigan.

The first store is set for a tentative late June open in Holland at the Family Galleria, at 3155 West Shore Drive, said Brian Witmer, Five Guys facilities assistant.

The second store will open some time in November in Centerpointe Mall, at 3665 28th St. SE, Grand Rapids, he said.

No Guys in East Grand Rapids?

Although the scuttlebutt going around East Grand Rapids’ Gaslight Village is that a Five Guys Burgers and Fries may be coming next to the Rite Aid, at 2130 Wealthy St. SE, Witmer and city officials are claiming it’s probably not true.

A sign on the vacant building next to the Rite Aid reads that a Five Guys will be coming soon, but Brian Donovan, East Grand Rapids city manager, said no Five Guys officials have ever approached him or his team about it.

“I don’t know who’s putting up those signs. Someone told me that sign was up, but we’ve got no permits,” he said. “At the very least, we’d get a building application. We’ve had nothing.”

In order to remodel a space, the city needs a building permit from a new owner, Donovan said, but so far, he’s heard nothing from Five Guys or anyone.

This isn’t the first time a sign without confirmation has been placed on the building. About a year ago and for some time, the same building also bore a sign reading that a new Chinese restaurant was coming soon, Donovan said. That didn’t happen and city officials were never approached by any such restaurant.

Donovan said he doesn’t know why these signs keep appearing, but he’s sure about one thing: it’s not the real Five Guys doing it.

“I don’t want (Five Guys) to be seen like they’re playing games. They’re not,” Donovan said. “But I have no idea who put up that sign, or why.”

Five Guys' Witmer appreciated the sentiment, adding he knew nothing of any such development and said there were no records of any plans on his list of upcoming stores for a Five Guys in East Grand Rapids.

“There’s no good reason for that sign to be up, as far as I’m concerned. That wouldn’t be something we’d do just to get the name out there,” he said. “I’m just as confused as they are.”
