On-the-go lunch options are expanding, due to the addition of five new veggie bowls to an existing product line.
MorningStar Farms, a brand of Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company, said this week it is introducing the new flavors to its line of 100-percent vegetarian “heat-and-eat” veggie bowls.
The new flavors join the existing lineup of MorningStar Farms veggie bowls, which was first introduced this spring.
The brand has created several new bowl flavors: Japanese Soba Noodles, Moroccan Medley, Chik’n Tikka Masala, Italian Sausage Bake and Chik’n Pot Pie.
Todd Smith, director of brand and innovation marketing at MorningStar Farms, said the veggie bowls are “protein packed” and “combine a blend of flavorful ingredients and seasoning.”
He said people are looking for “convenient and nutritious meal options,” including meat alternatives.
MorningStar said veggie-based meals tend to be lower in cholesterol and saturated fats than their meat-based counterparts and are also good for the planet, because of environmental benefits, such as helping reduce water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and land usage.
MorningStar Farms produces more than 30 products, including meatless burgers, breakfast sandwiches and Meal Starters.
