Food distributor expands territory

A local food distributor is expanding into the Southwest U.S. by acquiring a longtime distributor in Texas.

Gordon Food Service in Wyoming said this week that it has acquired Glazier Foods Company, a food service distributor in Houston.

Gordon Food Service said Glazier Foods' commitment to high-quality service and customer service makes it an ideal match for GFS.

“Glazier Foods has a strong reputation in our industry and a solid track record of growth,” said Tony Groll, Gordon Food Service president of U.S. distribution. “We welcome the Glazier family of employees to Gordon Food Service and look forward to working together to grow our business in the Southwest.”

John H. Miller, president of Glazier Foods Company, said the acquisition will allow the companies to deliver "an expanded portfolio of products and services to our customers and the marketplace, while providing new opportunities to our employees.”

Glazier Foods

Founded in 1936 by C.R. “Bob” Glazier, Glazier Foods Company was originally a frozen-foods pioneer.

Today, the company delivers a wide range of food products and supplies to a variety of food service operators in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and New Mexico.

It is considered one of the largest full line independent food distributors in the nation, with more than 16,000 national branded items in stock.

Glazier Foods serves more than 6,000 customers: restaurants, schools, sports and entertainment operators, daycare centers, hospitals, health care facilities and others.


Gordon Food Service distributes to food service operators in the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast U.S. and coast to coast in Canada.

The company also operates more than 165 GFS Marketplace stores that are open to the public.
