A food maker in the region is being recognized for its ethical business practices.
Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company was named one of the 2019 “World’s Most Ethical Companies” by Ethisphere for the 11th time in the list’s 13-year history.
Kellogg is the only Michigan-based company on the list.
The “World’s Most Ethical Companies” list, which is unranked, recognizes companies “for exemplifying and advancing corporate citizenship, transparency and the standards of integrity.”
“Today, employees, investors and stakeholders are putting their greatest trust in companies to take leadership on societal issues. Companies that take the long view with a purpose-based strategy are proven to not only outperform but last,” said Timothy Erblich, CEO of Ethisphere. “I congratulate everyone at Kellogg for earning this recognition.”
Steve Cahillane, chair and CEO, Kellogg, said his company is “committed to operating with integrity.”
“We are honored to receive this award for an 11th time,” he said. “This recognition underscores our ongoing commitment to ethical business standards. Our commitment to our ‘K Values’ and our ‘Global Code of Ethics’ are core to our success as we ‘Deploy for Growth’ and work to win in the marketplace.”
In 2019, 128 honorees were recognized spanning 21 countries and 50 industries.
Methodology and scoring
The World’s Most Ethical Companies assessment is based on the Ethisphere Institute’s ethics quotient, or EQ, framework. The information collected provides a sampling of core competencies rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance and ethics.
Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent), culture of ethics (20 percent), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent), governance (15 percent) and leadership and reputation (10 percent).
All companies that participate in the assessment process receive their scores and insights into how they stack up against leading organizations.

Best practices and insights from the 2019 honorees will be released in a report and webcast in March and April of this year.
