Revolution Farms, an indoor hydroponic farm in Caledonia, named Trent Hartwig as its new president.

The East Grand Rapids native succeeds John Green, who will continue to serve as the farm’s CEO. Hartwig will lead the day-to-day operations of the 3-acre indoor farm with a focus on expanding its retail relationships, marketing and production.

“There is an expanding opportunity in fresh produce, and the Revolution Farms model is defining a new vision of farming and the way we eat,” Hartwig said. “I am thrilled to join this team that is growing and delivering higher-quality lettuce that is also safer and more environmentally conscious.”

Revolution Farms can produce more than 1.5 million pounds of lettuce and salad greens for the Midwest each year. Its lettuce and salad greens can be found in more than 200 stores across Michigan, including Meijer, D&W Fresh Market, VG’s and Family Fare stores, as well as hundreds of independent grocers, through Doorganics for direct consumer delivery, and VanEerden, Gordon Food Service and Sysco for use in restaurants and foodservice.

“Revolution Farms greens are widely considered more nutritious and safer for families, and Trent is the perfect fit to help us share our premium lettuce and salad greens with more consumers,” Green said. “He will be an excellent leader to support our mission of helping families across the Midwest eat healthier through a product that we believe is better than organic.”

Hartwig was previously the managing partner and chief marketing officer for Handstand Innovations, a retail innovations company that specializes in consumer products and in-store marketing. He also served as the director of sales and strategy at Tessemae’s, a food and beverage company. While there, he managed direct corporate relationships with U.S. distributors and retailers in the food, drug and mass channels.

Hartwig received his Bachelor of Arts in economics from Michigan State University and his Master of Arts in applied economics from the University of Houston.
