Gerald R. Ford International Airport has announced a new non-stop route to an international gateway in the Southeast U.S.

Non-stop service from Ford airport to Miami International Airport will begin on Dec. 19.

American Airlines announced the service today, which will be operated by American Eagle.

The flight schedule for the new service includes a daily departure from Grand Rapids at 6:05 a.m. and a daily return flight from MIA to GRR, arriving at 12:48 a.m.

Tickets are on sale now.

“This new service to Miami gives our customers in western Michigan unprecedented access to our gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Billy Glunz, director of state and local government affairs, American Airlines.

“From Miami, American offers nearly 350 daily flights to 43 countries and territories, now just a stop away from Grand Rapids.”

This is the 25th non-stop destination out of Grand Rapids and the eighth destination in Florida.

“Miami in December is a perfect way to not only kick off the holiday season, but an extremely busy travel period for the Latin American, Mexican and Caribbean markets that Miami serves,” said Jim Gill, president and CEO, Ford airport.

American Airlines also offers non-stop service from Grand Rapids to five other destinations: Charlotte, North Carolina; Chicago O’Hare; Dallas-Fort Worth; Philadelphia; and Washington, D.C.
