Ford airport announcing ‘new airline’ and $90M ‘major expansion’

Gerald R. Ford International Airport plans to make two announcements tomorrow.

In the morning, the airport will announce its plans for a new $90-million “major expansion” project. The Ford Airport Authority board and leadership team will be joined for the announcement by U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga and a representative from Michigan Sen. Peter MacGregor’s office.

In the afternoon, a “new airline” will announce service in Grand Rapids. Ford airport Interim President and CEO Brian Picardat and the airline’s president will make comments.

Ford airport served more than 3.26 million passengers in 2018, and more than 9,000 travelers pass through each day.

The airport offers non-stop service to 27 destinations, with more than 140 daily non-stop flights.

It generates more than $3.1 billion in annual “economic output” throughout West Michigan and employs more than 2,000 people.
