Ford airport reports best-ever December

Gerald R. Ford International Airport is reporting another record-breaking month.

Ford airport served 273,673 total passengers last month, making it the airport’s busiest December ever, an increase of 17 percent from the previous year.

In 2018, Ford airport served a record 3,263,234 passengers. The previous annual record was 2.8-million passengers.

“We had originally projected to hit the three-million mark in 2020. To have that much growth in 2018 was a tremendous accomplishment,” said Brian Picardat, interim president and CEO, Ford airport.

It is the airport’s sixth straight year of record annual growth.

Cargo transport totals for 2018 hit 91-million pounds, a 3-percent increase from 2017.

Ford airport also added six new routes in 2018.

Frontier Airlines began non-stop service to Philadelphia International Airport, Denver International Airport, Phoenix-Sky Harbor International Airport and Tampa International Airport.

American Airlines began non-stop service to Miami International Airport and Phoenix-Sky Harbor International Airport.
