Despite record cold temperatures and winter storms, February was another record-breaking month for Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

February 2019 surpassed last year’s record to become the busiest February in the airport’s history.

The airport served 272,982 passengers last month, an 8.46-percent increase from February 2018.

Combined with January’s passenger numbers, the airport is 7.84-percent ahead of passenger traffic in 2018, a record-breaking year of more than 3.2 million passengers served.

“To continue our trend from 2018 into 2019 is quite a feat,” said Brian Picardat, interim president and CEO, Ford airport. “The growth we have seen and the investment and excitement from our airline partners continue to spawn our upward trends.”

The airport has seen passenger growth for the past 17 consecutive months, and it’s expected to continue into 2019, with more air service coming to Ford airport.

Allegiant Airlines is beginning service to Sarasota-Bradenton on April 5 and to Nashville and Savannah-Hilton Head in June.
