Gerald R. Ford International Airport is reuniting with an old friend.

Denver-based Frontier Airlines said this afternoon it will begin serving the Grand Rapids-based airport in December.

The airline had previously flown to and from Grand Rapids from 2010 through 2013.

The low-cost airline will offer non-stop flights from Grand Rapids to Denver and from Grand Rapids to Orlando, which the airport said is the number-one market for non-stop service out of the airport. Nearly 200 passengers fly to and from Orlando each day.

“We are thrilled to welcome Frontier back into the Grand Rapids market,” said Jim Gill, president and CEO, Ford airport. “Having another low-cost carrier option to stimulate competition and offer even more non-stop service is a welcome addition for our air service portfolio and our growing community.”

Jim Faulkner, Frontier’s corporate communications head, said the airline will bring its “Low Fares Done Right” mentality to Grand Rapids, as well as its travel-extras packages.
