The Grand Rapids Student Advancement Foundation has appointed a partner from a local law firm and Grand Rapids Public Schools alum as president of its board.
Warner Norcross & Judd partner Charles N. Ash Jr. is stepping into the role with the foundation, or GRSAF, after five years of serving as a member of its board.
He replaces Deb Bailey, who will continue to serve on the board.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve as board president of GRSAF,” said Ash, a Creston High School grad. “I look back on my years in GRPS with gratitude and pride. I thank the many great teachers who helped me, as well as the staff and administrators.
“I cannot emphasize enough the power of education to shape not only the futures of the students, but also the future of the city of Grand Rapids. I look forward to working closely with the GRSAF board and executive director to expand community-wide support for our mission.”
A Grand Rapids native, Ash received his B.A. from Calvin College and his J.D. from Stanford University. He is also a graduate of Leadership Grand Rapids and Leadership West Michigan and serves on the Calvin College Alumni Association Board.
“As an alumnus himself, Charles' commitment to the current GRPS students, who will be future fellow alumni, is unparalleled,” said Michele Suchovsky, executive director, GRSAF. “As an attorney and community leader, Charles brings his expertise, vision and passion to support the foundation's vision to ensure the best educational opportunities and experiences for all of our students."
