The charitable arm of a local food distributor and retailer has donated $30,000 for a renovation project at a Grand Rapids veterans home.
The SpartanNash Foundation has presented Blue Star Mothers of America with the check for the renovation of Kozy Korners at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, at 3000 Monroe Ave. NE.
Kozy Korners is a recreation room that is available for veterans living at the home to use when friends and family visit, for special events or at their own leisure.
The renovation of Kozy Korners will include the installation of new flooring, paint, furniture, appliances, lighting, counters, cabinets and items for activities.
This summer, nearly 100 SpartanNash-owned stores and fuel centers in Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio asked customers to donate $1, $5 or $10 at the register to support military veterans.
The campaign raised $45,000 for Blue Star Mothers of America, which was distributed to chapters throughout the three states. In Michigan, $30,000 was given to chapters in Ionia, Kent and Montcalm counties, Kalamazoo and southwest Michigan.
