The brothers behind a Thai eatery are opening a fried-chicken restaurant tomorrow at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market.
Blon Hang and Yang Hang, owners of the Downtown Market’s Rak Thai Bistro, will open Juju Bird Chicken + Sides at the market, at 435 Ionia Ave. SW.
Juju Bird will serve a variety of items: fried chicken; boneless and traditional wings; chicken strips; side dishes, such as curly fries, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy and deli salads; and chicken sandwiches, including a classic crispy chicken, Nashville Hot, Juju BLT and chicken salad sandwich.
It will offer dine-in, takeout and catering services.
Juju Bird sources non-GMO, hormone-free, all-natural Amish-raised chicken, according to the restaurant.
It is located in the space between Field & Fire bakery and Blue Spoon Pasta.
For Friday’s grand opening, which coincides with Downtown Market’s Fall Flavors day, Juju Bird will feature a special sweet-and-savory menu item called the “cone-a-copia,” a handmade cornucopia-shaped waffle cone filled with fried chicken and a choice of sauce.
Downtown Market
Founded in 2013, the Grand Rapids Downtown Market is a $30-million, LEED-certified, mixed-use facility that brings together production, distribution, marketing and education about local foods and growing.
It leases space to emerging and experienced “food artisans” and merchants and features a 24-vendor Market Hall and two restaurants.
