Furniture dealer outfits hospital

A furniture dealer has completed a roughly two-year project for a hospital.

Custer in Grand Rapids, a Steelcase dealer, said last week that it has completed the “interior environment” for the six floors and 167 patient rooms at the recently expanded and renovated Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Custer worked on the project with Patricia Beck, a design consultant for Mary Free Bed.

The entire project took about two years and cost about $1 million, said Megan Kuzma, HealthWorks applications specialist, Custer.

Custer will stay on as a supplier and designer post-open.

“The space is very warm and inviting,” Kuzma said. “It’s kind of like a very uplifting space as far as the colors go.”

Custer supplied furnishings for various spaces: patient rooms, day spaces, exam rooms and therapy gyms.

Custer supplied the spaces with a range of products: suite sofas, bedside cabinets, patient storage spaces, guest chairs and more.

The majority of the products are Steelcase products.

The project involved several of Custer’s divisions: Design, Architectural Products, Furnishings, Technology and HealthWorks.
