A local office furniture manufacturer has partnered with a Chinese electronics maker on a new product for workers to re-charge their devices..
Grand Rapids-based Steelcase last week, in partnership with Shenzhen, China-based Anker, “unveiled” the Steelcase Flex Mobile Power unit to charge “up to three laptops or personal devices for a full day,” according to Steelcase.
Each Steelcase Flex Mobile Power unit charges multiple devices simultaneously, detecting which device is running on the lowest power and directing the most energy there, so all team members can keep working.
The design was inspired by hand-crafted tableware and “fits in a range of workplaces, from upscale to casual.”
The product will be available in the U.S. and Canada later this year.
A companion charging tray can also be integrated into a Steelcase Flex cart for multiple power units to be fully mobile.
“People work in fast-paced teams with changing activities, and they need to be more mobile than ever,” said Hyun Yoo, principal designer, Steelcase. “We wanted to truly empower teams to work however and wherever they want, so we collaborated with Anker to design enterprise-level mobile power for the workplace that is not only functional but beautiful.”
Anker Innovations, founded in 2011, is a charging technology supplier and a developer of “innovative” consumer devices.
It has five key brands: Anker, Eufy, Nebula, Roav and Soundcore.
