A gourmet pizza chain is delivering its next restaurant to 28th Street.
Specialty pizza
Georgio’s Gourmet Pizza said today that it plans to open a restaurant in a former gas station in Cascade Township, at 5570 28th St. SE.
The fast-casual chain operates pizza restaurants in downtown Grand Rapids, East Lansing and Chicago. The restaurant’s menu features more than 50 types of pizza slices.
Georgio’s will host a grand-opening event in mid May, offering customers free pizza all day with a donation to Kids’ Food Basket.
The 28th Street Georgio’s will feature an extended menu: beer, wine, cocktails, pasta, soup, salads, sandwiches, appetizers and a kid’s menu.
The restaurant will also offer delivery and catering services.
The 2,000-square-foot space, which seats 68, is being renovated by D&K Engineered Construction in Grand Rapids, which is finishing up construction this month, said Sarah Cavanaugh, a Georgio’s spokesperson.
Jobs
Georgio's will bring 15-20 jobs to Cascade Township, Cavanaugh said.

Local expansion
Georgio's is expanding to Cascade Township to reach a larger customer base in the Grand Rapids market, Cavanaugh said.
Cavanaugh added that the downtown Grand Rapids location typically draws the business-lunch crowd and the late night bar crowd.
On 28th Street, the restaurant will feature a “family friendly atmosphere.”
“We recognized a void in the market,” said Steve Millman, owner, Georgio’s. “Our new location is centrally located to many visitors near 28th Street.”
