A retired college professor will give a talk tonight to open his exhibit at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.

David Greenwood, who was long-time professor at Kendall College of Art and Design, will open the GRAM exhibit “David Greenwood: Stop Motion” with a talk at 7 p.m. The event starts at 6 p.m. with a cash bar.

The exhibit is the latest in GRAM’s Michigan Artist Series and will run from until May 17.

Greenwood taught sculpture and functional art at KCAD for more than 30 years, before retiring as professor emeritus.

“For me, art making starts as an inward journey, searching for deeply felt stimuli,” Greenwood said. “The trick is to go deeper yet, until it becomes apparent how this personal moment is also universally human.”

The exhibit will feature an array of Greenwood’s realist work in a variety of mediums such as wood and metal.

“In his figurative sculpture, Greenwood demonstrates a desire to communicate broadly in his use of widely understood symbols and archetypes,” said Ron Platt, chief curator, GRAM. “His works are self-contained narratives that intermingle his personal ideas and memories with universally understood elements.”
