Grand Awards spotlighting theater scene

The Grand Awards will celebrate the “best of the Grand Rapids theater community” this weekend.

The Grand Awards will be held at Fountain Street Church in downtown Grand Rapids on Sunday from 6 p.m. to midnight.

There will be over 30 scholarship awards given out to collegiate and community theater participants in the greater Grand Rapids area. The scholarship recipients will be chosen by the Grand Rapids Community Foundation through an application process.

There event will feature performers from several local community theater organizations: Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, Circle Theatre, Actors Theatre, Heritage Theatre, Jewish Theatre and Master Arts Theatre.

Other performers will represent their colleges: Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University, Cornerstone University and Aquinas College.

Afterward, there will be an After Glow party at the church's fellowship hall. There will be food, drinks, dancing and music.

Tickets are $40 each, which include access to the After Glow party. They can be purchased online.

Proceeds will go toward the scholarship awards that will continue to be given to outstanding performers, although the annual awards show will come to an end. Proceeds will also go toward the cost of the event.
