A $1.4-million plan to redevelop a 1920s grocery store in southeast Grand Rapids into a restaurant and bakery has been awarded $310,000 from the state.

The food operation by Hall Street Partners will be on the ground floor of the historic property, which is an expansion project by Wealthy Street Bakery, and two apartments will be upstairs, at 1200 Hall St. SE.

The bakery will reportedly open in December.

The mixed-use project will create 15 jobs.

The state’s marketing arm, the Michigan Economic Development Corp., said Wednesday that Hall Street Partners was awarded a $310,000 Community Revitalization Program grant for the project.

The redevelopment by Hall Street Partners will help create an improved community and “better jobs,” said MEDC President and CEO Michael A. Finney.
