Grand Rapids ranks among the top 25 “growth” markets in the country, according to data released today by a national moving company.

According to U-Haul data analyzing migration trends for 2018, the Grand Rapids-Wyoming market ranks No. 5.

For its “U.S. Growth Cities” ranking, U-Haul calculated the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks entering a market versus trucks leaving that market during the calendar year.

Migration data was compiled from the more than 2-million one-way U-Haul truck rental transactions that occur annually.

While migration trends do not directly correlate to population or economic growth, the migration data is an effective gauge of how well states and cities are attracting and maintaining residents, according to U-Haul.

There are 21,000 U-Haul locations across all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces.
