A neighborhood in Grand Rapids is hosting its Art Battle for Community this week to benefit the neighborhood.

The event by the Creston Neighborhood Association is being held this Wednesday at Rezervoir Lounge, at 1481 Plainfield NE, beginning at 6 p.m.

Artists from the Grand Rapids community will compete during Art Battle to create works of art that will be auctioned at 8 p.m. that same evening.

Proceeds from the auction benefit the Creston Neighborhood Association, which is a nonprofit committed to connecting neighborhood residents and resources to promote the social, economic and environmental health of the Creston community.

A number of artists are competing in the year’s Art Battle for Community: Nora Faber; Sarah Jean Anderson; Jacob Zars; Marco Riolo; Erick Picardo; Joe Parsaca; Phil Artz; Michael Pfleghaar; Lisa Price; Nick Nortier; and George Eberhardt.

The association is attempting to break its fundraising record by raising more than $10,000 during the event.

Art Battle for Community has raised more than $50,000 for the Creston Neighborhood Association since its inception in 2007.

Tommy Allen, publisher of Rapid Growth, will serve as the evening’s emcee.
