Grand Rapids is a great place to own a home.
Porch, in partnership with Redfin, has released a ranking of the “Best Places to Own a Home in America,” with Grand Rapids coming in at No. 2, behind Denver. Porch shared the ranking on its Facebook page last week.
The ranking is based on a study that polled 10,007 homeowners in the nation in July and August.
“Grand Rapids is small enough to have a hometown feel, yet large enough to have a vibrant downtown community,” said Kent Selders, a real estate agent with Redfin, which helped provide local insight in the study. “The real estate market also hasn’t experience extreme lows like other cities.”
Grand Rapids rates highest in resident satisfaction among cities looked at in the study.
It is also above average in commute, real estate confidence and education opportunity.
Cities with similar rankings include Washington, D.C. and Virginia Beach, Va., which rank No. 3 and No. 4.
Grand Rapids rates lowest on the ranking in walkability, the only below-average rating for the city.
The city is also No. 13 in climate and economic opportunity, No. 18 in security and safety and No. 22 in tax fairness.
