A global restaurant reservation website has rated a pair of steakhouses in downtown Grand Rapids among the best of their kind in the nation.

OpenTable named its inaugural “Top 100 Steakhouses in America” this month, which includes restaurants from 32 states and the District of Columbia — as well as the Grand Rapids locations of Ruth’s Chris Steak House and The Chop House.

The two Grand Rapids steakhouses are the only Michigan restaurants in the “Top 100” ranking.

OpenTable is part of The Priceline Group.

Both the Grand Rapids restaurants in the ranking are part of a chain with other locations on the ranking.

Ruth’s Chris has 13 locations in the “Top 100,” while The Chop House has one other location in the ranking.

The reviews

The "Top 100" ranking is based on more than 5 million reviews submitted by OpenTable diners for more than 20,000 restaurants in the U.S.

OpenTable said the ranking features notable steakhouse names such as Bones in Atlanta, Killen’s Steakhouse in Pearland, Texas and Lawry’s The Prime Rib in Las Vegas.

The state with the most steakhouses in the ranking is Texas with 15 restaurants. Ohio ranks second in the ranking with seven restaurants, while California, Florida, Louisiana and North Carolina are each home to six restaurants on the ranking.

"While the winning steakhouses source the very finest cuts of beef, these steakhouses are about more than meat," said Caroline Potter, chief dining officer, OpenTable. "From the stately to the sleek, the inaugural steakhouse honorees are creating dining experiences that are deliciously familiar, while making each diner feel like a VIP at every visit."
