The new Cabela’s store in Grandville will open its doors on Thursday, March 21.
At 10:45 a.m., a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Cabela’s executives — including Chief Executive Officer Tommy Millner and members of the local community — will kick off a weekend-long celebration of family activities, giveaways and special appearances by outdoor celebrities.
The store's doors will officially open to customers at 11 a.m.
“Michigan is a Cabela’s kind of place," said Wes Remmer, Cabela’s spokesperson. "People love to hunt and fish in Michigan and that’s the lifestyle we promote, so it’s a natural fit. Grand Rapids is a growing place, so we like being close to the city.”
Cabela’s — a specialty retail outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear — announced plans this fall to hire 200 full-time and part-time employees for the new 88,000-square-foot location.
The store can be found on the east end of the Rivertown Mall’s retail corridor, as part of a new 380,000 square foot retail center called Bucktown.
This will be Cabela’s third Michigan store, following the Feb. 14 opening of a 43,000-square-foot location in Saginaw and the Dundee location, which opened in 2000.
The success of the Dundee location was what led Cabela’s to develop more stores in the state, Remmer said.
“Opening two stores in the same state within five weeks of each other is something very rare for Cabela’s,” Remmer said. “It speaks to what we think of Michigan.”
