Griffins reap ticketing honors

The Grand Rapids Griffins office staffers are matching their on-ice counterparts.

The American Hockey League at its recent annual meeting recognized the Griffins with multiple awards, including the franchise’s first-ever award for season ticket sales growth, as well as its third Digital Media Excellence Award in five years.

The organization ranked first in partial-season ticket sales, No. 2 in the total of new full-season equivalent (FSE) sales, and No. 4 in full-season ticket sales in the league, while bringing in the highest growth in FSE and full-season revenue in the league.

The digital award recognized the franchise for launching its own app and leading the AHL in both Facebook and Snapchat followers. The Griffins ranked No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, in Instagram and Twitter followers among the league’s 31 teams.

Personal achievement awards were given to the Griffins staff. Season ticket sales account executives Peter Van Dame and Jessica Boyer finished first and second, respectively, in the Western Conference in new FSE sales. Zach Krywyj, group sales account manager, ranked second in the conference in group ticket sales.

The AHL named the Griffins’ Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics of West Michigan, which occurred on Feb. 24, the “Most Unique Ticket Sales Promotion or Theme Night” winner. The team also received certificates for achieving 750 new FSE sales as well as a 15 percent increase in per-game FSE sales.

Griffins President Tim Gortsema was named the AHL’s executive of the year.
