A local grocery chain promoted an employee to executive vice president and general manager, corporate retail.
Byron Center-based SpartanNash said on Tuesday that the company promoted Thomas Swanson to the role from his previous position as senior vice president and general manager, corporate retail.
Swanson will report directly to Dennis Eidson, interim president and CEO of SpartanNash.
“On behalf of the executive leadership team and our corporate board of directors, we are excited for Tom’s visionary leadership as he continues to develop and execute strategic plans that continually grow and improve SpartanNash’s corporate retail business,” Eidson said.
In his new role, Swanson has full profit-and-loss responsibility and oversight of SpartanNash’s customer-first initiatives for its corporate retail stores.
He held his previous role as SVP and GM of corporate retail since October 2018 and was responsible for leading the corporate retail business unit for all corporate retail banners and Quick Stop fuel and convenience centers.
He also supervised the transition and integration of more than 20 Martin’s Super Markets into the SpartanNash family of stores.
“Mr. Swanson’s energy and passion for retail have been instrumental in SpartanNash’s success,” the company said. “His impact has resulted in positive retail comparable sales for the last two quarters.
Swanson has over 30 years of executive and managerial experience in grocery retailing, including over six years (2012-18) as VP of SpartanNash’s corporate retail-west operations.
