The East Hills neighborhood restaurant Grove has been selected Restaurant of the Year by Grand Rapids Magazine.
“It’s very humbling, and we are very proud to be recognized,” said Grove Chef Patrick Wise. “We are going to continue to work harder in the year to come to continue to improve our overall hospitality experience at Grove. It gives us another challenge in front of us, and something we are very proud of.”
Restaurants and foodies alike anticipate the magazine’s annual dining awards, now in their 33rd year.
GRM, which is a sister publication of Grand Rapids Business Journal, acknowledges Grove’s food as both high quality and creative, saying, “Since opening nearly two years ago, the East Hills restaurant has delivered amazing cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients in combinations that simply wow the senses.”
The magazine also notes that diners’ expectations for “best” restaurants have transformed substantially in the past five years. It says that in the magazine’s history of handing out the dining awards, “haute cuisine” was the primary recipient, and restaurants were judged on their ability to “execute classic, time-honored recipes.”
Today, as farm-to-table fare has taken over the dining landscape, diners are looking for creative twists that use locally sourced food items.
And that’s what Grove does best.
“We treat our ingredients with respect and have a respect for the history of food and where it comes from and try to be ingredient driven,” Wise said. “Hopefully, the meal and dining experience is something that makes people feel comfortable and excited about food. Hopefully, we create an overall hospitality experience.”
