John Reifel will once again become interim dean of Grand Valley State University’s Seidman College of Business on Feb. 1.
Reifel, a longtime economics professor at GVSU, will be stepping in to fill the void left by the planned Jan. 31 departure of the current dean, H. James Williams.
Williams is leaving to take the position of president at Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn.
This is the second time Reifel has served as Seidman’s interim dean. He also held the position in 2003 before Williams was hired.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Gayle R. Davis said a national search for a permanent replacement will be conducted throughout the year.
In the meantime, Reifel will direct the business college, Davis said, adding that she believes he has the experience to lead during this transition period.
Reifel first came to GVSU in 1971. In 1996, his Seidman colleagues voted him the winner of the school’s Outstanding Teacher Award.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree and doctorate from Michigan State University.
