A health care executive in the region has won a national human resources award.

Tracy Braman, executive director of human resources at Lakeland Health in St. Joseph, won the Gary Willis Leadership Award from American Hospital Association Solutions, or AHA Solutions, and the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration, or ASHHRA.

Braman shared the honor with Tina Boeckenstedt of Children’s Hospital Colorado.

The award recognizes managers and directors who have made leadership and operations contributions to their organizations and a commitment to educational opportunities.

Braman's leadership has "deeply benefited" her organization and the communities it serves, said Anthony Burke, SVP of the American Hospital Association and president and CEO of AHA Solutions, a subsiary of the AHA.

Braman in HR

Braman has more than 15 years of HR experience in corporate, nonprofit and health care settings.

In her time at Lakeland Health, Braman has helped create a culture of health with a holistic wellness program, improving the health of the workforce and managing the cost of its self-insured benefit plan, according to her nomination.

Under Tracy’s leadership, Lakeland Health has won Excellence in Engagement awards from the Advisory Company in each of the last three years.

She also aspires to help highlight individual successes and is co-chair of Lakeland’s Diversity Advisory Council.

“Just like the late Gary Willis, Tracy has a passion for making a difference in the field of human resources,” said Norma Tirado, VP of HR, IT and organizational transformation at Lakeland Health. “A caring, compassionate and capable HR leader, she’s also making a difference in our community through her community involvement.”

Braman said she's excited, because human resources now has a place to help make a difference in health care.

“My advice for new and advancing HR professionals is to never put your role in a box,” Braman said. “Be open to any opportunity, and you’ll grow as a person and as a professional. That’s why I’m so excited. This award is giving me the opportunity to network, collaborate and share best practices with other passionate colleagues across the nation at the ASHHRA conference.”
