The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan five stars for its Blue Care Network HMO plan, while Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s PPO plan was awarded four-and-a-half out of five stars for 2022.

The Medicare Part C Star Ratings are published annually by CMS, measuring the quality of health services that Medicare Advantage plan beneficiaries receive and the experiences they have with the plans. The ratings are designed to help consumers choose the best Medicare Advantage plan for them and also allow them evaluate the performance of plans that contract with Medicare.

“Ensuring our senior members receive the quality health care and services they need is essential to delivering the exceptional Medicare Advantage plans members expect from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan,” said President and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Daniel J. Loepp. “These high ratings from CMS are a testament to the work we put in every day to maintain the highest quality networks and access to care, in addition to taking care of our members’ complete health needs.”

The star ratings cover five categories for Medicare Advantage plans, which include how the plan emphasizes staying healthy with benefits such as screenings, tests and vaccines; how the plan manages chronic conditions; how responsive the plan is and the quality of care beneficiaries receive; member complaint reports, and how many people leave the plan each year.
