A local behavioral health hospital was ranked among the largest in the U.S.
Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services was named the third-largest nonprofit behavioral health hospital in the country in a March report from “Modern Healthcare.”
The publication ranked hospitals by net patient revenue based on 2020 CMS Hospital Cost Report data. In 2020, Pine Rest attained net patient revenue of $140.9 million for its 198-bed hospital.
Pine Rest’s ranking rose from fourth to third since the last edition of the report.
“We have been rooted in Michigan for 112 years and are constantly growing and evolving to meet the needs of the people we live and work with,” said Pine Rest Vice President and COO Bob Nykamp. “Pine Rest is especially focused on improving access to care right now, because that’s what our community needs. Our climb in the ‘Modern Healthcare’ ranking is solely a reflection of our focus on living out our mission.”
President and CEO Mark Eastburg said, while the ranking is an honor, it’s the growth and mission of the hospital that’s most important.
“By itself, the ranking doesn’t mean much, except that it tells the story of our work in caring for our neighbors in West Michigan,” Eastburg said. “It’s really personal for us.”
Pine Rest has 21 clinics and over 450 psychiatrists, clinicians and advanced practice professionals providing inpatient, partial hospitalization, psychiatric urgent care, residential, outpatient, telehealth, addiction treatment and recovery, and specialized assessment services.
