A health system is planning to construct a new cancer center in the region.
Ascension Borgess plans to build a 38,000-square-foot facility in Oshtemo Township, near the intersection of Stadium Drive and Drake Road.
The land, purchased from Western Michigan University, is situated on 8.2 acres in WMU’s BTR Park 2.0.
The location was picked primarily for its proximity to US-131, making it easily accessible for patients.
The new $20-million center will be used for medical oncology, hematology and infusion outpatient services.
Construction should begin next spring, and the facility is projected to open in June 2021.
“We have a proud history of providing health care in Kalamazoo for more than 130 years, and we recognize the importance of expanding our services to meet the community’s changing needs,” said Peter Bergmann, president and CEO, Ascension Borgess.
The architect on the project is Dallas-based HKS Architects.
The project’s general contractor is Kalamazoo-based AVB.
