A regional talent attraction organization is hosting an event to help interns get plugged into the community.
Grand Rapids-based Hello West Michigan will produce its sixth-annual West Michigan Intern Connect, a half-day professional development conference for local interns, on June 19 from 12:30-5 p.m. at 20 Monroe Live downtown Grand Rapids, at 11 Ottawa Ave. NW.
“Many employers view summer internships as an eight-week long interview, but the interns are also interviewing us — ‘us’ being both the company and West Michigan,” said Rachel Bartels, executive director, Hello West Michigan.
“By connecting interns with regional happenings, they can experience the community for themselves and get excited about living here. If there’s a job offer on the table at the end of the summer, we want them to say yes.”
The in-person event promises to provide digital resources to help interns connect with the community, their peers and local employers.
Topics will include interpreting dress codes, navigating networking events, creating a positive mindset for communication and adulting. There will also be a networking period.
Tickets for Intern Connect are $30 until June 14 and $40 after.
Interns can register individually online or companies can pay for their registration fee by contacting Hello West Michigan at 616-301-8210.
Employers can host a company table at the event for $250 by calling Hello West Michigan.
