A local holding company has acquired a “high-end” book finishing and fulfillment company in Tennessee.

Grand Rapids-based Blackford Capital, a private equity firm, said yesterday its portfolio company Printing Consolidation Company, or PCC, of Grand Rapids acquired Church Hill, Tennessee-based Kingsport Book.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquired company has a custom process for quickly finishing deluxe, trade and soft-cover books in quantities up to 1 million.

This is the second company in the book printing industry that PCC owns. The other is Grand Rapids-based Dickinson Press, a religious book printing company PCC acquired in 2015.

“The addition of Kingsport Book is in direct response to the needs of our customers,” said Aaron Day, the CEO of PCC and Dickinson Press. “The ability to manufacture deluxe books domestically with very short turn times is one of the core requests we have heard from our customer base.”

Kingsport Book, which is located near major hubs for FedEx and UPS, has also developed a fulfillment and distribution division that has grown in recent years and will look to expand through the acquisition.

Fred Cooper, CEO of Kingsport Book, and Rick Jennings, CFO, will stay on to lead operations at Kingsport Book.
