There’s a new leader of the multi-purpose Holland Civic Center.

Chris Hart began in the executive director role this month at the Holland Civic Center, at 150 West 8th St., which recently underwent a $17-million renovation.

He is an employee of VenuWorks, the company managing the city-owned center.

The executive director’s responsibilities include overseeing all day-to-day operations and events and working with the City of Holland to utilize the center to its potential, Hart said.

Hart has over three decades of experience in the hospitality industry and has served on local boards.

“Chris and his diverse hospitality industry background will be an asset to VenuWorks, the Civic Center and the community of Holland,” said Steve Peters, president, VenuWorks.

His most recent hospitality job was serving for six years as general manager and operating partner of Boatwerks Waterfront Restaurant in Holland.

Since leaving that job in 2014, Hart has been a real estate agent for Andrea Crossman Group and Colwell Banker Woodland Schmidt. He is also an adjunct faculty member for Grand Valley State University’s hospitality department.

While earning a bachelor’s degree in business and psychology at Hope College, Hart first worked for Dick Den Uyl at the former Hatch Restaurant and Point West Inn, eventually becoming director of operations for the restaurants.

He later spent 14 years at River City Food Company, becoming VP of operations, and then was general manager of the Double JJ Resort.

Hart is an executive board member for the Tulip Time committee and is on the advisory boards for the CTC Culinary Program of Holland and the Downtown Development Authority for Holland.

“As a Holland resident, I am excited to help lead in the evolution of our city’s newest treasure,” Hart said. “I am grateful to VenuWorks for this opportunity and look forward to working with the City of Holland, VenuWorks, the advisory board and the community to make the Holland Civic Center Place successful.”
