A Holland CEO has been named the winner of the 2013 Lakeshore ATHENA Award.
Leslie Brown of Metal Flow Corporation was honored this week at the annual ATHENA Award luncheon at Trillium Events in Spring Lake/Ferrysburg.
The annual award was created to raise up one outstanding role model each year, who exhibits exceptional leadership skills, has achieved excellence in their own business or profession, has served the community in a meaningful way, has assisted other women in reaching their full leadership potential and who has made regional contributions.
Metal Flow is a 35-year-old family owned business that provides component parts to various industries internationally.
During the past decade, Brown has successfully led diversification efforts, both focused on its products and industries served.
During her tenure, employment has increased by 46 percent, the company has expanded in Asia and revenue has increased.
Brown has instituted programs focused on developing women employees for executive opportunities and created programs that encourage women to recognize technical career opportunities at every level of manufacturing.
Brown has also shown a commitment to the community, serving as chair of Holland Hospital and previously as chair of the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce.
She was educated at Miami University and Michigan State University.
In addition to Brown, 11 finalists were also recognized at the award luncheon.
“We are honored to have so many women from our region that make significant contributions in the communities where they live and work,” said Holly Johnson, chairperson for the Lakeshore ATHENA Award program.
