A local hospital group has appointed a new chief medical officer.
Spectrum Health Hospital Group said today it has named Dr. Darryl Elmouchi to the position.
Elmouchi will begin his new role on Oct. 10.
Elmouchi will assist in setting the strategic direction for the hospital group. He will lead initiatives that support Spectrum Health strategy, such as clinical service line development, care coordination and quality efforts.
His responsibilities will extend throughout Spectrum Health’s 12 hospitals and other care sites.
Most recently, Elmouchi served as chief of the division of cardiovascular medicine at Spectrum Health Medical Group and as chair of the department of cardiovascular medicine at Spectrum Health hospitals.
He also holds an appointment as assistant professor of medicine at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
Tina Freese-Decker, president, Spectrum Health Hospital Group, said Elmouchi has “played a vital role” in Spectrum Health’s cardiovascular program for years and demonstrated his expertise as an “excellent physician” and an “effective leader.”
She said the hospital system values his ability to “build relationships, understand complex issues and implement key decisions.”
Elmouchi has also served as medical director of cardiac electrophysiology from 2010 to 2014 at Spectrum Health and as a cardiac electrophysiologist at West Michigan Heart.
He has held clinical positions at the University of Michigan Health System and University of California, San Francisco.
He Holds a bachelor’s degree in history from University of California, Los Angeles, a medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and a certificate in biostatistics from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
Elmouchi completed his internship, residency and chief residency at University of California, San Francisco and fellowships in cardiac electrophysiology and cardiovascular medicine at the University of Michigan Health System.
