Hotelier hires director of sales

A hotelier has named the director of sales for the hotel it is developing in downtown Grand Rapids.

Hudsonville-based Suburban Inns said yesterday it hired Michelle Burnett for the role for the new Embassy Suites by Hilton, at 710 Monroe Ave. NW, set to open next spring.

Burnett has more than 20 years of experience in West Michigan sales and marketing in a variety of industries, including textiles, food and beverage and education.

Burnett has worked for several organizations, including Modern Hardware, Ferris Coffee & Nut Co., Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors, The Art Institutes and Comprehensive Search.

She also spent nearly 17 years as a buyer at Spectrum Health.

“My career has been focused on serving the customer, while exceeding internal and external stakeholders’ expectations,” Burnett said. “I’m a life-long Grand Rapidian and am excited to take my two decades of experience, combined with a love and knowledge of the West Michigan area and help the Embassy Suites become a positive and lasting impact in the Grand Rapids community.”

Brian Behler, general manager of the Embassy Suites, highlighted her experience and familiarity with the region.

“She’ll be an asset for the company and a genuine community leader,” Behler said.
