West Michigan Works! is hosting a pair of virtual job fairs next week.
The agency said Tuesday that it is hosting virtual hiring events on April 21 and April 23 that will feature more than 35 employers, as well as 75 different positions in industries ranging from construction and health care to retail.
Participating job seekers will be able to discuss their skills and qualifications while learning more about current job opportunities.
This week, job seekers can register for 15-minute phone conversations with local employers that have immediate openings.
March saw historic numbers of Michigan employers temporarily close their doors to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Conversely, many employers need additional workers to meet the increased demand for essential services.
“We’re hearing from employers who need to quickly ramp up their recruitment efforts to fill a large number of job vacancies,” said Amy Lebednick, business solutions director for West Michigan Works! “These are employers who provide essential products and services, and some who have retooled their facilities or operations to produce much-needed items such as hand sanitizer or face masks.”
A participating employer, Perrigo, is a manufacturer of self-care products with its North American headquarters in Allegan, where it has had to increase its production in response to the new coronavirus.
“Perrigo plays a critical role in the COVID-19 response effort as our employees are producing the self-care products consumers trust to stay healthy and treat their symptoms around the globe,” said Becky Herrington, vice president of global talent acquisition at Perrigo.
“We value our workers’ dedication and are actively hiring additional employees who are passionate about our mission.”
Interested job seekers can view the list of participating employers and register for a time slot on the West Michigan Works! website at westmiworks.org/virtual-job-fair.
