An ice cream maker in the region is releasing the third flavor in its small-batch “artisan” collection to coincide with ArtPrize.

Holland-based Hudsonville Ice Cream said today it will release its latest Michigan Artisan Collection flavor, Ferris Coffee Caramel Cold Brew, this Wednesday, the first day of ArtPrize 10.

The first two flavors were Bowerman’s Blueberry Donut, released in July, and Sweetie-licious Pie Surprise, rolled out in August.

The third flavor features Nitro Cold Brew by Grand Rapids-based Ferris Coffee & Nut Company, blended with caramel butter-fudge swirl ice cream by Hudsonville.

“We regularly hear requests from fans looking for a coffee-flavored ice cream, and the Michigan Artisan Collection enabled us to try different coffee combinations to highlight bold flavors in a sweet new way,” said Morgan Craig, flavor development scientist, Hudsonville Ice Cream.

“Ferris Coffee has a long history here in West Michigan, which was one of the factors we considered when narrowing down this third flavor for our artisan collection.”

Ferris, a specialty coffee and nut roaster, launched its ready-to-drink Nitro Cold Brew Coffee this past April.

The Michigan Artisan Collection is a small-batch collection of flavors “representative of the best parts of Michigan,” with ingredients sourced from local companies.

Related offerings

Ferris will be offering a Nitro Cold Brew Float made with the Caramel Cold Brew ice cream at its Holland, downtown Grand Rapids and West Side Grand Rapids cafés, beginning Sept. 19.

Ferris is also supporting the flavor release with a Cold Brew Happy Hour from 1-3 p.m. Monday-Friday at those three locations, offering a 20-percent discount on any cold brew product, including floats but excluding merchandise.

Finally, in celebration of ArtPrize and National Coffee Day, Ferris will host a free tasting of the new ice cream flavor from noon-3 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Rosa Parks Circle.
