Kent County’s library system has a new board member.

The Kent County Board of Commissioners recently appointed Sheri Gilreath-Watts to the Kent District Library’s board.

Gilreath-Watts will represent the city of Wyoming and is now a part of the eight-member KDL Board of Trustees, representing 27 communities throughout Kent County.

Her responsibilities include establishing library policies, employing the library director, adopting an annual budget and approving the expenditure of funds.

Gilreath-Watts has been teaching in Grandville Public Schools for more than 20 years. She is the teacher representative for the Grandville Education Foundation and is on the Grandville Public School District Improvement Committee. Gilreath-Watts also is the adviser for the Peer 2 Peer Mentoring Program, Culture Club and Slam Poetry Club.

She earned bachelor’s degrees in public relations and biology from Wayne State University before receiving master’s degrees in both education leadership and literacy from Calvin College.

Gilreath-Watts is married with three grown children.
