Kendall College of Art and Design's new fashion studies program has been given a $1-million gift — and a new name.
The Pamella Roland DeVos School of Fashion at KCAD, which is part of Ferris State University, will be dedicated Tuesday.
The designer, who was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2010, has roots in Grand Rapids, and the naming is in honor of a $1-million gift from the Dan and Pamella DeVos Foundation.
"My husband, Dan, and I believe that this program is poised to take off, and we are thrilled to be participating at the ground level," said, Pamella DeVos, president and designer at Pamella Roland. "I'm excited for the students to have extraordinary opportunities to hone their craft and pursue their passion in the fashion world."
The donation is expected to help boost the program's profile and allow KCAD to give the program a home at the Woodbridge N. Ferris building in downtown Grand Rapids.
The funds will also support projects such as an annual fashion show, speaker series, equipment purchases and upgrades and projects with designers and retailers.
"I'm honored that I can share my passion for fashion design by investing in the next generation of designers," she said.
