Kent County simplifies bidding process

Businesses now can more easily view upcoming purchasing opportunities with Kent County.

A new public bid calendar shows businesses a tentative schedule of when the county purchasing division will issue bids.

There are two reasons for implementing a calendar, according to Calvin Brinks, Kent County purchasing/fleet manager.

The first is to inform the business community of upcoming opportunities and encourage participation through reduced time, cost and effort.

The second is to increase purchasing division efficiency by consolidating and standardizing purchases between county departments and local agencies, meant to foster fair competition and better obtain the lowest costs for citizens.

Brinks said the bid schedule is visible internally to staff of Kent County and other local government agencies within the county, improving the process of consolidating purchases between county departments.

This updated system includes automatic notifications to agencies that have historically purchased certain items. This allows multiple agencies that may be purchasing the same item to act as one entity, reducing costs and effort.

The bid schedule is just an informative tool and not an all‐inclusive list of future purchases.

Brinks said businesses should reach out to the buyer listed next to opportunities. Clicking on the listed buyer’s name will display contact information.

He added that businesses are encouraged to register to receive email updates about new opportunities.
