A few days ago, Colliers International West Michigan revealed it was losing one of its key executives.
But Colliers Managing Partner Derek Hunderman didn’t indicate then why he decided to step down from a position he has held for the past four years, nor did he say where he was going.
Now we know.
Hunderman is the new president of Kerkstra Precast, a successful company based in Grandville that supplies the construction industry with concrete products.
His first day in his new position is Monday.
“He will take over all responsibilities of running the company,” said Greg Kerkstra, Kerkstra’s existing president. “He will help collaborate with our team, while keeping everyone grounded and focused on the task at hand: manufacturing quality precast concrete products.”
Kerkstra is turning over his post at the firm to Hunderman to become the company’s CEO and chairman.
“This role gives me an opportunity to seek out new avenues to grow our company, build on current and new relationships and focus on giving back to the community — all great passions of mine,” Kerkstra said.
Kerkstra became company president about a decade ago when Larry Kerkstra, Greg’s father and the company’s founder, retired. He began working at the family owned and operated business in 1987.
Kerkstra Precast celebrated its 50th anniversary earlier this year.
Hunderman worked in manufacturing at Gill Industries, Lopez Industries and Grand Rapids Spring & Stamping before he joined Colliers in 2003, where he was part of the firm’s industrial real estate division.
He became president of the industrial group in 2007 and the firm’s managing partner in 2009.
“His strong leadership skills and manufacturing experience will be an asset to our company,” Kerkstra said. “We’re excited to have such a great individual joining our top-notch team.”
