A lakeshore town has welcomed a new apartment building with ground-floor retail space.
The city of South Haven and project partners recently cut the ribbon on South Haven Center, a $4.5-million project at 335 Center St.
The three-story, 18-unit apartment building, which already has several residents, is located in the heart of South Haven, at the corner of Center and Huron.
It aims to offer high-end amenities at market-rate value, consisting of one- and two-bedroom apartments, ranging from 630 to 920 square feet. Rents range from $1,400 to $1,850.
The building also offers 2,400 square feet of retail space, which could be used by a restaurant.
Chris Veneklasen, president of a.j. Veneklasen and primary owner and developer of the building, said South Haven Center is in an attractive location for prospective renters and retailers.
The site is less than a five-minute stroll from the lakeshore and is centrally located along a popular walkable corridor.
Grand Rapids-based R2 Design Group designed the building, and a.j. Veneklasen served as the project's general contractor.
Leasing is through Gardner Management Company.
Financing partners on the project were First National Bank of Michigan and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
